How to Buy at Auction
Buying at Western Cape Auctioneers is straightforward and fully transparent. Whether you're new to auctions or a seasoned bidder, our four-step process ensures you know exactly what to expect from registration through to collection.

Register
Complete your FICA registration before the auction. You'll need a valid South African ID or passport, proof of address, and — for company bidders — your company registration documents. Registration is free and takes only a few minutes online or at our offices.

Bid
Attend in person or bid live online through our secure platform at westerncapeauctionsonline.co.za. The highest bidder wins the lot, subject to any reserve price. Our auctioneers maintain a clear, fair, and transparent bidding environment throughout.

Pay
Settlement is required promptly after the auction, typically within 24–48 hours. Payment must be made by EFT or bank-guaranteed cheque. Please note that a buyer's premium applies to all purchases — this will be clearly stated in the auction terms prior to bidding.

Collect
Once full payment has been received and cleared, collection of your lots can be arranged. Our team will advise on specific collection windows, removal timeframes, and any transport or logistics requirements per auction.

What FICA documents do I need to register?
All bidders are required to comply with FICA (Financial Intelligence Centre Act) regulations. Individual bidders must provide a valid South African ID or passport and a recent proof of residential address (not older than three months). Company or trust bidders must additionally provide company registration documents, proof of business address, and authorisation for the representative bidder. Documents can be submitted online during registration or at our offices prior to the auction.What is a buyer's premium and how much is it?
A buyer's premium is an additional fee charged to the winning bidder on top of the hammer price. This premium is stated clearly in the terms and conditions for each specific auction before bidding opens. We recommend reviewing the auction particulars in full before placing any bids so that your total cost is clear from the outset.How long do I have to pay after winning a lot?
Payment is typically required within 24 to 48 hours of the auction closing. Acceptable payment methods are EFT (Electronic Funds Transfer) or bank-guaranteed cheque. Lots remain the property of Western Cape Auctioneers until full, cleared payment has been received. Failure to settle within the stipulated timeframe may result in the lot being re-auctioned and the defaulting bidder held liable for any shortfall.When and how can I collect my purchased lots?
Collection windows are specified for each individual auction and will be communicated to successful bidders directly. It is the buyer's responsibility to arrange removal within the stated timeframe. Please ensure you have appropriate transport and/or lifting equipment for large or heavy items. Storage fees may apply for lots not collected within the allowed period.What happens if a lot is withdrawn or not sold?
Occasionally, a lot may be withdrawn before or during the auction, or it may not meet its reserve price and therefore not be sold. In such cases, no purchase is concluded and no payment is due from the bidder. Our auctioneers will announce withdrawals and unsold lots clearly during the sale.Can I inspect lots before bidding?
Yes — viewing days are held prior to every auction, and we strongly encourage all prospective buyers to inspect lots in person before bidding. All lots are sold voetstoots (as-is, where-is), so personal inspection is your opportunity to satisfy yourself as to the condition, completeness, and suitability of any lot. Viewing schedules are listed on each individual auction listing.
